God's Purpose for the Church
Not Leading Purposefully?
Pursuing the church's purpose is not a matter of leadership style, personality, or following a current church fad. Here is why:
God has included a good number of verses in His Word about us being purposeful, planning, and preparing in accordance with His ways.
Lk. 14:28-33; 1 Cor. 2:15-16; 9:24-27; 10:31; Eph. 5:15-17; Phil. 2:2; Heb. 10:24; 12:1-2
-- Purposeful leadership, then, is a matter of obedience.
God Himself is purposeful.
Ex. 9:16; Ps. 33:11; 57:2; Prov. 16:4; Eccl. 3:1, 11, 17; Isa. 14:24; 25:1; 46:10; 55:11; Jer. 23:20; 29:11; 32:19; Rom. 8:28; 2 Cor. 5:5; Eph. 3:10-11; Phil. 2:13; 2 Tim. 1:9; Heb. 6:17
-- Purposeful leadership, then, is a matter of lining up with God and His ways.
Jesus was purposeful in His time here on earth.
Mk. 1:35-39; Lk. 19:10; Jn. 6:38; 17:4; Rom. 14:9
-- Purposeful leadership, then, is a matter of being Christ-like.
God communicates the results of purposefully lining up with Him.
Prov. 12:5; 16:3; 21:5; 1 Cor. 3:12-15; Gal. 6:7-10; 1 Pet. 4:10; 1 Jn. 2:17
-- Purposeful leadership, then, is a matter of commonsense and practicality.
You've probably heard the saying, "Aim at nothing and you'll hit it every time." Sometimes God will work in spite of us, but as you can read above, He looks for us to work in cooperation with Him, to line up with Him and His purposes.
To Do: Take time to read the above verses and consider how your leadership should be affected because of this teaching.
