Christ-like Intent in Vision & Goal-Setting

Christ-like leaders follow Jesus’ words, attitudes, and actions in casting a vision for where their church body goes as well as goals to get there. We start with Jesus’ broad intent for life in Him. He said, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full” (Jn. 10:10).

When we view our responsibilities as leaders through the lens of the basics of life in Christ, certainly any vision and goals we set should be . . . Continue reading Christ-like Intent in Vision & Goal-Setting

Christ as the Focus, Not the Vision & Goals

Sometimes as leaders we get so wrapped up with the need to identify our purpose, mission, and vision that we lose sight of what it’s all about. We set goals that enable us to accomplish our vision, sometimes forgetting that it’s not about what we do but Who we know. When our focus shifts off of Christ and on to our vision and goals, it will be difficult to . . . Continue reading Christ as the Focus, Not the Vision & Goals

Power to Grasp and Implement a New Vision for the Church

No matter what our circumstances, God purposes for us to love Him with all of who we are and to love our neighbor as ourselves doesn’t change. What we do to live out His purposes, our mission, could be the same regardless of the times in which we live, at least in broad terms. We still will show love to God by learning more about Him, praying, and worshiping Him. We still will show love to people by sharing the Gospel with those who don’t know Jesus, fellowshipping with and discipling those who do know Him, and doing good to all.

But, we may need to develop a new vision for getting there. How will we . . . Continue reading Power to Grasp and Implement a New Vision for the Church

Vision and Goals Grounded in the Gospel

We preach, proclaim, and spread the Gospel but, the Gospel is more than a message. Philippians 1:27 says, “conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ.” Similar to citizens of a country obeying the laws of the land, so those saved by the power of the Gospel (Rom. 1:16), also live by the Gospel. It’s the foundation for living as Christ-followers right now, right where we are, as well as in our eternal home. Consequently, any vision and goals set for His Church must be grounded in and resultantly reflect the Gospel. . . . Continue reading Vision and Goals Grounded in the Gospel

Vision and Goals Born Out of Prayer

Times of uncertainty can give way to doubts, anxiety, and even fear. Though churches typically tend to resist change, we may at times have no choice but to change. Our purpose to love God and people will remain. Our mission shouldn’t change. But how do we get there? Where do we go from here? — Let’s go to the throne of God so our vision and goals are born out of prayer. To rise above our insecurities we need a place to turn for refuge (Ps. 62:8), peace (Phil. 4:6-7), wisdom (James 1:5), and the help we need (Heb. 4:14-16). . . . Vision and Goals Pursued Through Spiritual Gifting
