Church Leadership Basics: The Great Commission<\/a><\/center><\/div>\n

If you read the Great Commission of Matthew 28:18-20, you will find that this command was written to all followers of Jesus Christ<\/a>. This responsibility therefore does not belong only on the Outreach Pastor’s job description but somehow should be a part of everyone’s ministry description.<\/p>\n

\"Job<\/div>\n

The Great Commission begins, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore . . .”<\/em>\u00a0 We are all ultimately responsible to the Lord. How can we reflect this reality in a Job Description, aka Ministry Description?<\/p>\n

In a previous post<\/a> we added “Responsible to” and “Responsible for” on the job description template we are building to reflect the interdependence God designed the Body to exercise. You might want to emphasize the point in the beginning verse for the Great Commission by adding words similar to what follows:<\/p>\n

Responsible to:<\/strong> You will be first and foremost accountable to the Lord in all you do but you will report to and consult with _______.<\/p>\n

Responsible for:<\/strong> Through this position you will minister to _______\u00a0and\/or oversee _______, as an entrustment for whom you are responsible before God to serve as He served and not from a place of superiority or control.<\/p>\n

To the job description template we must also add the Ministry Tasks<\/strong> for which the person will be responsible.<\/p>\n

Position Defined:<\/p>\n

Responsible To:<\/p>\n

Responsible For:<\/p>\n

Qualifications Required:<\/p>\n

Ministry Tasks:<\/p>\n

Support Provided:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Somehow these tasks should be worded so as to include and reflect the mission Jesus gave us to “go and make disciples of all nations.”<\/em>\u00a0 Even in ministries that are very task-oriented and\/or behind-the-scenes, we still need to portray how it is about the effect it has on people. There is a bigger picture that needs to be captured in the job description so the person gains the proper perspective from the start. The position might not require going out on the mission field, foreign or local, but the person nonetheless has a part in fulfilling the Great Commission.<\/p>\n

Take time to prayerfully, carefully, and intentionally craft the words used to describe their ministry tasks.<\/p>\n
