If we want to develop job descriptions that reflect the basics<\/a> of life in Christ, we must consider God’s Heart for the Church to be Christ-like<\/strong><\/span>. God is concerned with more than the ministry tasks for which the person is responsible.<\/p>\n

When the prophet Samuel was identifying God’s choice for king over Israel, God said, “The LORD does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart”<\/em> (1 Sam. 16:7).<\/p>\n

Heart character affects HOW we carry out responsibilities.<\/p>\n

How God’s Heart is Reflected in Job Descriptions<\/h2>\n

Job (ministry) descriptions usually contain a section listing qualifications as seen in the template developed thus far:<\/p>\n

If we’re going to use the section about qualifications as a good place to reflect God’s heart, it must get beyond spiritual gifts, skills, experience, and education to also include character traits.<\/p>\n

How God’s Heart Affects the Use of Job Descriptions<\/h2>\n

Just as we expect Christ-like qualities in the person to whom the ministry description is given, so we need to develop the job description with the right heart. And, whether using it for recruitment or staff evaluations, we need to do so in ways that showcase His heart.<\/p>\n
