\"Look<\/a>
\nSince God gave us the time we have on this earth, it only makes sense that we look to Him for how to most effectively use our time (Ps. 139:16). He’s given us His Word to thoroughly equip us for every good work (2 Tim. 3:16-17), so why wouldn’t we let God’s Word guide the use of our time?<\/p>\n

In Scripture we find the reminders, as well as qualities and focus needed for effective time management<\/a>. As we align with His Word in the use of our time, we also find the refreshment, joy, and enlightenment that’s missing when we mismanage our time by living in conformity with the world, pleasing people, or catering to our own selfish desires (Ps. 19:7-8).<\/p>\n

Biblical Reminders That Should Guide Our Time Management<\/h2>\n

Not only did God ordain the days we’d have here on earth (Ps. 139:16), He also holds us accountable for what we do with this time (1 Cor. 3:10-16; 2 Cor. 5:9-10).<\/p>\n

Implications:<\/em> Pray similar to the psalmist when he said, “Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom” (Ps. 90:12).<\/p>\n

We only have a short, fleeting amount of time here on earth (Ps. 39:4-7).<\/p>\n

Implications:<\/em> Seek to accomplish, or accumulate, that which counts for eternity, not merely for the time you have here on earth. (Phil. 3:20-21; Heb. 13:14-16; 1 Pet. 2:11-12)<\/p>\n

Qualities Scripture Points to That Will Affect How We Spend Our Time<\/h2>\n

While we could list a number of qualities leaders need to effectively manage their time, we’ll limit this post to just three the Bible connects with what we do with our schedules.<\/p>\n

Intentionality:<\/strong><\/em> Spend time intentionally, not worrying about the future but neither being future-blind. (Prov. 6:6-11; 20:4; Matt. 6:25-27)<\/p>\n

Wisdom:<\/em><\/strong> Choose what and when to do whatever we do wisely with Scripture as our guide. (Eccl. 3:1-11; Ps. 19:7; Eph. 5:15-18; 2 Tim. 3:16-17)<\/p>\n

Discernment:<\/strong> <\/em>Think through how to make the most of opportunities (Eph. 5:15-18; Col. 4:5), using God as the standard, not the world (Rom. 12:1-2).<\/p>\n

Where We Should Focus Our Time<\/h2>\n

Focus on what God deems most important — loving Him with all of who you are which spills over into loving people. (Matt. 22:37-40; Lk. 10:38-42; Heb. 13:14-16; 1 Pet. 1:17-25)<\/p>\n

Use your time for God’s glory, to honor and please Him in all you do. (1 Cor. 10:31; 2 Cor. 5:9-10; Gal. 1:10; Col. 3:17)<\/p>\n

Seek God’s kingdom, His will, trusting Him rather than focusing on and worrying about things that won’t matter for eternity. (Matt. 6:25-34)<\/p>\n
