Since the Gospel<\/a> is “the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes” it only makes sense to acknowledge its role in decision-making.<\/p>\n

Why It Makes Sense to Examine Decisions at the Foot of the Cross<\/h2>\n

1) The Gospel provides eternal perspective in decision-making.<\/p>\n

Decisions based on God’s wisdom will not always lead to choices the world might make. Why? He sees the big picture not\u00a0based on what happens in the moment but in light of eternity.<\/p>\n

For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel – not with wisdom and eloquence, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power. For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. (1 Cor. 1:17-18)<\/em><\/p>\n

The cross may have seemed like a foolish endeavor to some but it so completely demonstrated God power over sin and death that the Gospel message can stand on its own without pomp and circumstance. When we look to the cross in making our decisions, it puts everything in perspective.<\/p>\n

2) The Gospel levels the plain providing the framework for how we make decisions.<\/p>\n

At the foot of the cross, “there is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus” (Gal. 3:28). “For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision has any value. The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love.” (Gal. 5:6) That means there’s no room for one person controlling all the decisions in the Church. At the foot of the cross we lay down our hierarchical mindset and “in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others” (Phil. 2:3-4).<\/p>\n

3) The Gospel equips us for making effective and productive decisions.<\/p>\n

When we put our trust in Christ and His finished work on the cross,\u00a0He forgives\u00a0our sin and we now have the potential to live changed lives from the inside out. “He has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.” (2 Pet. 1:4-7) These qualities,\u00a0added one on top of the other (faith, goodness, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, mutual affection, and love), enable us to make good decisions.<\/p>\n

We need to keep going back to the foot of the cross so we don’t forget that the Gospel is what gives us the power to be effective and productive. — “For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. But if anyone does not have them, he is nearsighted and blind, and has forgotten that he has been cleansed from his past sins.” (2 Pet. 1:8-9)<\/p>\n
