How many times might we have read 2 Timothy 3:16-17? Church leaders, how often have we thought of its application in the usefulness of Scripture in change management?<\/p>\n

\"Usefulness<\/p>\n

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. (2 Tim. 3:16-17)<\/em><\/p>\n

Assuming that we want to bring about change that is ultimately for the good, we can count on God to use His Word to take us there.<\/p>\n

How God Might Use Scripture in Change Management<\/h2>\n

The Bible teaches<\/strong><\/em> us about God’s purposes<\/a>, design<\/a>, and mission<\/a> for the Church so we head in the right direction. It teaches us about God’s heart and ways so we have a standard against which to align. It teaches about the greatness of our God so we better understand the power available to us to do “every good work” in alignment with Him. Hence, Scripture provides the doctrinal foundation upon which to build any change that might be necessary.<\/p>\n

God’s Word exposes<\/strong><\/em> wrong motives, negative attitudes, faulty thinking, lack of faith, and so much more that can taint our hearts in change management. It cuts to the core in its rebuke<\/strong><\/em>, “sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart” (Heb. 4:12).<\/p>\n

Scripture can restore<\/em><\/strong> us to the right state of mind and correct<\/strong><\/em> us for a proper course of action. Though the difficulties of the change process may discourage us, “the statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart” (Ps. 19:8). Though we might have acted foolishly, “the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple” (Ps. 19:7).<\/p>\n

The Word also, as we are trained<\/strong><\/em> by it, produces the discernment we need to do that which is right and to do even better the next time. It matures us so that we become as those “who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil” (Heb. 5:14).<\/p>\n

Change can be a difficult process for churches but God’s Word will be a lamp to our feet, a light on our path (Ps. 119:105).<\/p>\n
