Vision and Goals Pursued Through Spiritual Gifting

Share:

As leaders, we shouldn’t be coming up with a vision for the church and goals to pursue it on our own. God has empowered all members of His Body to do their part (Eph. 4:11-16). — There’s a building up of the Body, wherein we grow and come out better getting others involved using their spiritual gifts.

The Spiritual Gifts Given to Equip the Church to Move Forward

Equipped to Pursue Vision and Goals as Everyone Does Their Part Using Spiritual Gifts
Ephesians 4 depicts growth in the Body of Christ, a moving forward toward greater maturity and unity (Eph. 4:13) wherein we become more focused (Eph. 4:14), transformed (Eph. 4:15), and coordinated with love holding us together (Eph. 16). To get there, God empowers people with certain spiritual gifts to “equip people for works of service” so they can do their part to accomplish God’s vision for the Church.

Those empowered to equip the Body, according to Ephesians 4:11, include:

  • apostles
  • prophets
  • evangelists
  • pastors
  • teachers

The Pursuit of Our Vision and Goals Continues with Those Equipped to Do Their Part

We will continue to progress and grow “as each part does its work” (Eph. 4:16) having been equipped “for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up” (Eph. 4:12). That part includes the use of people’s spiritual gifts.

Learn how the different spiritual gifts can be useful in vision casting and goal setting in the Ministry Handbook: Spiritual Books in Use. There you will also see how the equipping gifts listed in Ephesians 4:11 help equip the Body to fulfill God’s vision. In addition, the handbook suggest gifting for 26 other specific tasks a leader must either do or oversee, as well as gifts needed in 16 broad ministry areas.
