The Apostle Paul exhorted Timothy, “In everything set them an example by doing what is good. In your teaching show integrity, seriousness and soundness of speech that cannot be condemned, so that those who oppose you may be ashamed because they have nothing bad to say about us.” (Titus 2:7-8) The word “everything” in that passage means being an example in all we do which includes how we go about making decisions.
Does our Example in Decision Making Line Up with Our Words?
As leaders we should be steering the Church toward that which aligns with God’s intent, character, and means. Are we truly modeling all of this in the way we handle decision making?
We say we want ministries to line up with our church purpose. …. Do we intentionally make decisions with such alignment taken into consideration or are we rash in making decisions without much thought to it?
We emphasize the need for lining up with God’s design for Body Life. …. Do we include others in the decision making process or do we make all or most of the decisions without input?
We claim to be on mission with God. … Do we conscientiously give Him the final word on decisions to be made or do we fail to even pray about it?
We want members to grow in Christlikeness. … Do we follow a Christ-like process for making decisions or do we manipulate people to get on board?
We point to verses about how we can do nothing of eternal value without God’s power. … Do we make decisions pulling on God’s resources (power) or simply rely on worldly methods?
Let’s be examples in our decision making so that in “everything” our words hold weight.
