Equipped for Making Good Decisions

Share:

We’ve already considered how God’s Word renews our minds so we’re able to “test and approve what God’s will is” (Rom. 12:2). Not only does Scripture renew our minds so we can make wise decision, it also equips us to make good decisions.

Why Scripture is Useful for Equipping Us to Make Good Decisions

When we grasp the truth stated in the following verses, we understand how critical Scripture, all of God’s Word, is to making good decisions. The all-wise, all-knowing, all-powerful God, who knows the beginning from the end, inspired it. The Bible is an authoritative source.

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful… (2 Tim. 3:16-17)

Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation of things. For prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but prophets, though human, spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit. (2 Pet. 1:20-21)

How Scripture Equips Us for Making Good Decisions

Thoroughly Equipped for Making Good DecisionsAs the inspired Word of God, Scripture provides the wisdom and understanding needed in decision-making so that we are “thoroughly equipped for every good work” (2 Tim. 3:16-17).

Scripture:

teaches what God’s will is
rebukes when we’re out of alignment
corrects if we need to change course
trains us to do better the next time

What if the Bible Doesn’t Address the Specific Decision We Need to Make?

As a lamp for our feet and a light on our path (Ps. 119:105), God’s Word in some way will guide our decisions, even when it does not speak directly about a specific decision we need to make. At minimum, we can know that good decisions will NEVER contradict God’s Word. But, we can find help in other ways by asking the following questions:

  • Are there biblical precepts to obey?
  • Are there biblical principles to provide parameters?
  • Are there biblical precedents to follow?
  • Are there biblical promises to cling to?

Truly, God’s Word empowers and equips us to make good decisions.
