Church Staff: Expect Reliance on God’s Power

In recruiting and placing church staff into ministry, whether paid or volunteer positions, our objective should be that this is someone God will use to advance His work. Won’t that take reliance on God’s power?

Only By God’s Power Can We Make an Eternal Difference

We might find someone impassioned to serve in that capacity which will go a long way in motivation. We might recruit someone with previous experience or training which will certainly help them accomplish the tasks involved in that ministry. However, no matter what their qualifications might be, only as they pull on the power of the Almighty God will they be able to make an eternal difference.

Jesus said, “apart from me you can do nothing.” (Jn. 15:5)

for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose. (Phil. 2:13)

His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. (2 Pet. 1:3)

… by his power he may bring to fruition your every desire for goodness and your every deed prompted by faith. (2 Thess. 1:11)

How Can We Not Expect Church Staff to Rely on the Power of God?

Since the Church’s mission is to do God’s work here on earth, then to make an eternal difference, we MUST expect reliance on His power. We need God’s power to effectively accomplish ministry.

We must be careful that we never give the impression that we expect natural abilities can accomplish supernatural work. We must not settle for a man-centered approach to ministry.
