Power to Function as a Team Because of the Gospel

Share:

Team building best happens when we’re able to meet together. But, when based on the right foundation we can still function as a team even when we aren’t together. We can still fulfill God’s purposes. We can still function interdependently according to God’s design. We can still be on mission together. How? — We need to stay on the right foundation, the Gospel.

How the Gospel is the Foundation for Building a Team

All we must do is look back to the beginning of the Church when God, through the Gospel, brought together two hostile groups to be one Body.

This mystery is that through the gospel the Gentiles are heirs together with Israel, members together of one body, and sharers together in the promise in Christ Jesus. (Eph. 3:6)

Certainly the Gospel is still powerful enough to bring together a group of individuals with different backgrounds, preferences, and styles to function together as team.

How the Gospel Enables us to Function as a Team

Power to Function as a Team Because of the Gospel

  1. The Gospel unites us, whether meeting together or apart.

I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now … (Phil. 1:3-6)

  1. Because of our partnership in the Gospel, we can have confidence that God will work in each member of the team even when we’re unable to lead the team as we might want to.

because of your partnership in the gospel … being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. (Phil. 1:5-6)

  1. The key for having such confidence comes from aligning ourselves with the Gospel so we need to constantly encourage team members to that end.

Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ. Then, whether I come and see you or only hear about you in my absence, I will know that you stand firm in the one Spirit, striving together as one for the faith of the gospel without being frightened in any way by those who oppose you. This is a sign to them that they will be destroyed, but that you will be saved—and that by God. (Phil. 1:27-28)

  1. When we do what we do for the sake of the Gospel, we tend to be more willing to adapt. Things don’t have to go our way as we’re more concerned about the big picture.

To the weak I became weak, to win the weak. I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save some. I do all this for the sake of the gospel, that I may share in its blessings. (1 Cor. 9:22-23)

  1. Even when we disagree, if together we go back to the foot of the cross, we’re able to reconcile our differences and do what we do for the sake of the Gospel. We have a Gospel of peace … peace with God and one another.

and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. (Eph. 6:15)

… we put up with anything rather than hinder the gospel of Christ. (1 Cor. 9:12)
