Power in His Name to Function as a Team

Do All in the Name of Jesus for Power to Function as a TeamWe call a group of people meeting together for strategic planning of an event or ministry program a team, but does it truly function that way? Personal agendas and egos often get in the way. When, however, we come together in the name of the Lord, we have the needed power to truly function as a team.

3 Ways Coming Together in His Name Helps Us Function as a Team

When we come together under the banner of His name, we have what we need to function as a team.

1) We relate in Christ-like ways.

Jesus said, “For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them” (Matt. 18:20). This verse was written in the context of dealing with sin in the Church. Usually a team’s downfall comes when the old sin nature creeps in. Coming together in Jesus’ name makes a difference because it’s no longer about us but Him. We can’t gather in His name and push our own agendas and egos.

2) We have a power outside of ourselves to act and react in Christ-like manners.

Jesus promised His presence when we gather in His name (Matt. 18:20). With His presence comes His power, the power we need to rise above human tendencies. God responded to Moses’ insecurities with, “I will be with you” (Ex. 3:11-12). He encouraged Joshua as He assumed leadership after Moses death, “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” (Josh. 1:9)

3) We maintain the right heart attitudes.

Christlikeness shows itself in humility rather than pride, in serving others rather than needing to be in control (Phil. 2:5-8). We “value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others” (Phil. 2:3-4). When we do whatever we do in His name, we find ourselves “giving thanks to God the Father through Him” (Col. 3:17). We meet together as a team with the right heart attitudes, not grumbling and complaining when things don’t go our way.
