Coordination can be likened to a group of people coming together to sing. Because some sing soprano, and others alto, tenor, or baritone, they’re not all singing the same notes. When they sing the same song in the same key and with the same rhythm, there’s harmony. If they’re in this kind of alignment with each other, it sounds good. If not, there’s trouble. — What enables us to “sing” together in ministry? — God’s Word provides the score. When we get on page with Him, our different parts come together, coordinated in perfect harmony.
God’s Word Enables Us to be Coordinated as We Sing the Same Song
Our Song? — the message of Christ
Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. (Col. 3:16)
Notice that for us to come together in this way, the message must remain central. To keep on the same song, it must dwell among us richly. If what we do no longer aligns with “the message of Christ”, it’s hard for a group of diverse people to stay united. We must sing the same song.
The Key in Which We Sing Our Song? — Get in tune with God’s Word.
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. (2 Tim. 3:16-17)
Coordination requires that we let the Word teach, rebuke, correct, and train us so we stay in alignment with the message of Christ. God’s Word is the Source of that message as well as the Standard we must all use to be in harmony.
The Rhythm? — That’s determined as we keep pace with the Spirit.
Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. (Gal. 5:25)
We can sing the same song in the same key yet fail to sound good when we’re not on the same beat and/or tempo. We need a director to keep us in rhythm. If we want to work as a coordinated whole, we all need to yield to the Spirit’s lead. Without the Holy Spirit we can’t understand the message found in God’s Word to which we must align (1 Cor. 2:11-16).
