Many churches find themselves assessing their situation over and over seeking to know when it’s the right time to move forward and how. Let’s make sure we’re getting beyond merely accommodating physical realities to aiming for eternal results.
In the long run, what will most …
bring glory to God?
build up His people?
provide a good testimony?
advance His kingdom?
There are so many factors that go into answering those questions. We need to look at our resources, facilities, capabilities, etc. in light of current events but in the end, it comes down to relying on a God who is able to do exceedingly abundantly beyond what we would think or imagine.
We have a God capable of working all things together for good. We have a God who specializes in meeting needs with minimal resources, who will use us to make a big eternal impact when we’re at our weakest point.
The Key to Ministry Assessments that Lead to Eternal Results
Do assessments but ultimately measure your findings against the right standard — God Himself. If we want to see eternal results, we can’t measure our current situation against physical realities alone. God MUST factor into the equation.
God’s character defines the possibilities not the resources we have or don’t have. Nor are we limited by the obstacles we face. Sometimes we just need to step out in faith regardless of what we have or don’t have, what we can or can’t do, and rely on His strength and grace through which His power will be made known.
God’s ways don’t always make sense to our limited understanding. He specializes in working all for the good (Rom. 8:28). Just because we’ve “done church” a certain way in the past, doesn’t mean it’s the way to go now.
God’s will for one local church may differ than the next so be cautious of simply following what other churches are doing. Lay the results of assessments about your church before the Lord, asking God what He wants you to do so you arrive at eternal results.
