Aligning Organizational Efforts with Scripture

Share:

Too often people feel like organizational efforts in the Church stifle true ministry. While that can unfortunately be the case in some churches, it’s not what God intends. A living organism like our human body can’t function well without a level of organization. So, the Church, the Body of Christ, needs organization. Ensure organizational efforts enhance rather than entangle ministry by aligning them with Scripture.

How Aligning Organizational Efforts with Scripture Makes a Difference

Organization aligned with Scripture tends to enhance church life and ministry. The reason is simple. Aligning with God’s Word should produce the same kind of results as Scripture. Take a look at a sample of verses for how Scripture describes itself:

Aligning with Scripture Makes a Difference
The precepts of the LORD are right, giving joy to the heart. (Ps. 19:8)
The commands of the LORD are radiant, giving light to the eyes. (Ps. 19:8)
By them your servant is warned; in keeping them there is great reward. (Ps. 19:11)
Your statutes are my delight; they are my counselors. (Ps. 119:24)
I run in the path of your commands, for you have broadened my understanding. (Ps. 119:32)
Direct me in the path of your commands, for there I find delight. (Ps. 119:35)
I will walk about in freedom, for I have sought out your precepts. (Ps. 119:45)
I gain understanding from your precepts; therefore I hate every wrong path. (Ps. 119:104)
Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path. (Ps. 119:105)
Great peace have those who love your law, and nothing can make them stumble. (Ps. 119:165)
Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. (Jn. 8:32)
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. (2 Tim. 3:16-17)

Organization that’s aligned with Scripture should enhance, not stifle church life and ministry. It should enable us to serve with greater freedom and purpose, not entangle us. A true understanding of freedom in Christ leads to a desire for the good of the whole. That often requires a level of organization. — “You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love.” (Gal. 5:13)
