Organization Reliant on the Name of the Lord

Share:

Do you want to make sure organization doesn’t take on a life of its own in your church and ministry? Does it seem like taking time and effort to organize takes your attention away from God and what He does? Are you concerned about organizational efforts becoming divisive? If so, then rely on the Name of the Lord.

What’s in a Name?

For many of us, a name is simply a title or way of referring to someone. When we talk about the Name of the Lord, however, it’s about far more than that. It’s an identifying factor that ties in to the essence of who He is and what He does.

We may have a couple of names people use for us, like our proper name and a nickname. Throughout the pages of Scripture, we find numerous names used for God. We have His proper names as well as those that describe His character and ways. For more about the many names of God, see the resources listed at: Church’s Power: The Name of the Lord

How the Name of the Lord Affects Organization

Given that God’s name describes the essence of who He is, calling on His name in our organizational efforts therefore signifies we’re relying on Him to be or to do what we need to keep organization in its proper place.

  1. There’s power in His name that will affect the impact of our organizational efforts. (Jer. 10:6; Jn. 14:12-14)

We will accomplish far more and much greater things in His name than we ever could on our own.

  1. Wisdom comes in calling on His name which will enable us to do not only what is right but do it in the best way. (Dan. 2:20-23)

How much better our organizational efforts will be when relying on His name than on our own understanding.

  1. We find protection in His name that will guard our unity. (Jn. 17:11-12, 20-23)

We will work together better when it’s about His name than on any other basis.

How to Rely on His Name in our Organizational Efforts

Rely on Name of the Lord in Organizational EffortsPsalm 86:11 indicates what it will take.

Teach me your way, Lord, that I may rely on your faithfulness; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name.

A reverential fear of the Lord will lead to a reliance on Him. That begins with getting to know Him, so we pray, “Teach me your way, O Lord”. The more we get to know Him and His ways, the more we come to realize just how faithful He is. He is someone we can depend on.

Getting to the point of revering His name so completely requires “an undivided heart” that fully trusts in Him (Prov. 3:5-6) because He is faithful. When this is the case, we follow His ways in how we organize, pulling on the power of His Name. Our church and ministry grow because of what He does through us, not because of our great organizational skills. Then we exclaim, “Not to us, LORD, not to us but to your name be the glory, because of your love and faithfulness.” (Ps. 115:1)
