When we organize, we put strategies in place that enable us to accomplish our goals. Assuming we have already prayed about and arrived at the goals God wants us to pursue, we then ask: “What is the best way to accomplish or arrive at this objective?” “What strategies should we put in place?” To answer those questions, we need to pray — pray about how to organize to best accomplish goals.
What Will Drive Us to Praying in Our Organizational Efforts
Praying about how to organize grows out of a recognition of who we are against who God is. The following qualities will tend to drive us to pray about all we do:
1) Humility – because we’re finite
When we realize that we don’t know it all, we will tend to seek wisdom and help from the One who always knows that which is right and best.
He guides the humble in what is right and teaches them his way. (Ps. 25:9)
2) Fear of the Lord – because He’s infinite
A reverential fear of the Lord leads to wisdom (Prov. 9:10) because we realize the absurdity of not turning to Him for the help we need. He is a great and awesome God who knows all, sees all, and can do all. He is good and upright (Ps. 25:8), loving and faithful (Ps. 25:10). The way of the Lord is always right and best so it only makes sense we consult Him. And, He promises to provide wisdom when we ask for it (James 1:5).
Who, then, are those who fear the LORD? He will instruct them in the ways they should choose. (Ps. 25:12)
Because we’re finite, we won’t lean on our own understanding. Rather, we’ll pray, trusting the infinite One and submitting to Him, in all we do, because of who He is.
Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. (Prov. 3:5-6)
Prayers in Scripture We Can Use When Seeking How to Organize to Best Accomplish Goals
The psalmist knew the importance of seeking God’s ways in all he did. This sampling of verses provide prayers we can use as we organize to best accomplish goals.
Show me your ways, LORD, teach me your paths. Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long. (Ps. 25:4-5)
Teach me your way, LORD; lead me in a straight path because of my oppressors. (Ps. 27:11)
Teach me your way, LORD, that I may rely on your faithfulness; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name. (Ps. 86:11)
Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. (Ps. 139:23-24)
