Staff evaluations don’t always go the way you had hoped. You may even have a difficult time understanding what happened. It’s possible God’s enemy, the devil, is trying to bring down the work of God in and through this person’s life and in your ministry. Go into staff evaluations remembering key spiritual truths about the battle you might face. And, put on the spiritual armor God has made available to stand against the devil’s schemes.
Remember, God Has Made Spiritual Armor Available Even for Staff Evaluations to Stand Against the Devil’s Schemes

Ephesians 6:14-17 lists the pieces of God’s armor, our spiritual defense. Here are some ways they could apply in staff evaluations and what we must remember as we meet with ministry workers.
belt of truth
Keep coming back to not just the truth of the situation but also the Truth of God’s Word. Remember, that truth sets us free (Jn. 8:32).
breastplate of righteous
Always guard your heart with God as your Standard of integrity and goodness. We measure ourselves and others against His righteousness, not the ways of the world or what we as humans may think is right. Remember, there is a way that seems right to us human beings but in the end it brings destruction (Prov. 14:12). God’s ways are so much higher than our ways and thoughts (Isa. 55:9).
feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace
Keep running back to the foot of the cross which levels the plane. It’s by the grace of God any of us are who we are (1 Cor. 15:10). Remember, we’re in this together, partners in the Gospel (Phil. 1:5) so work toward your common goal.
shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one
The person you’re evaluating may be tempted to believe the lies of Satan who says it’s impossible to change or to do better. Maybe you’re both discouraged by a lack of results. Remember, we put faith in a God with whom all things are possible (Lk. 18:27; Matt. 17:20).
helmet of salvation
Too often we can get in our own heads, overcomplicating matters, maybe focusing on that which is inconsequential rather than what’s most important. It’s only as we’re transformed by the renewing of our minds, putting on the new nature received at salvation, that we will truly “be able to test and approve what God’s will is – his good, pleasing and perfect will” (Rom. 12:1-2). Remember to “demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and … take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ” (2 Cor. 10:4-5).
sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God
This is the only piece of armor for going on the offense. The other pieces are more defensive, to protect. We wield the sword of the Spirit, God’s Word, that “is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” (Heb. 412). Remember to respond with the truth of God’s Word as taught by His Spirit, not with human wisdom (1 Cor. 2:12-13).
