Do you want effective church boards, committees, and ministry teams that advance the work of God? Do you long for them to not only get things done but do so in unified and God-honoring ways? When we understand and rely on the grace of God, Christ-like boards and committees are possible because they’re a result of grace and not human striving. They’re a result of grace and not worldly wisdom. God’s grace enables us to properly relate with one another on our boards and committees, not a man-made system of team building.
Our conscience testifies that we have conducted ourselves in the world, and especially in our relations with you, with integrity and godly sincerity. We have done so, relying not on worldly wisdom but on God’s grace. (2 Cor. 1:12)
Bible Verses That Show How Christ-like Boards & Committees are Possible as a Result of Grace
For a better ideas of how grace leads to Christ-like boards, committees, and ministry teams, reflect on the following Bible verses.

For who makes you different from anyone else? What do you have that you did not receive? And if you did receive it, why do you boast as though you did not? (1 Cor. 4:7) — But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not without effect. No, I worked harder than all of them – yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me. (1 Cor. 15:10)
Because of grace, we’re all on the same plane. We may have differing gifts and responsibilities, but no one is superior to the other. As a result, each person’s contribution on the board or committee is significant. Any effectiveness results from His grace so there’s no room for comparisons or competition. Pride and arrogance have no place on Christ-like boards and committees because of His grace. Neither do self-condemnation and insecurities when it’s about God’s grace at work in and through us.
We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. (Rom. 12:6) — Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. (1 Pet. 4:10)
Each member of the board or committee can do their part effectively using the spiritual gifts God has given them. We’re all empowered by the same Source, God’s grace. Consequently, when we use our spiritual gifts, we dispense God’s grace to one another.
By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as a wise builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one should build with care. (1 Cor. 3:10)
Because of the grace God gives us, we realize we’re there to complement each other’s part in kingdom building, not to control it, minimize it, or ignore it. Each one’s part adds to the big picture of what God wants to accomplish through the team.
But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” (2 Cor. 12:9) — It (grace) teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, (Titus 2:11-12) — Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. (Heb. 4:16)
Make no mistake. People will join boards and committees who have areas of weakness or dysfunction. We are all sinners saved by grace, in need of that same grace to rise above our personal issues. Until everyone grabs hold of and relies on God’s grace, the old human nature will surface in ways that disrupt unity and hinder effectiveness. So let’s encourage one another to grow in grace (2 Pet. 3:18).
I always thank my God for you because of his grace given you in Christ Jesus. (1 Cor. 1:4)
It won’t be uncommon to have someone who grates against others on the team. Pulling on the grace of God will help keep our attitudes in check. When we remember the truths in all the above Bible verses, we will look at that person through His grace and soon learn to appreciate them as a valuable asset to the board, committee, or ministry team.
