Jesus, in the short time He lived on earth accomplished more eternal good than all church boards, committees, or ministry teams combined ever will in their entire life spans. Being the Almighty, All-Wise God in the flesh (Jn. 1:1) certainly contributed into that reality but it also undoubtedly resulted from how purposeful He was. He knew why He came to earth and lived in accordance with that (Lk. 19:10; Jn. 4:34; 6:38). He kept His eye on the big picture which enabled Him to get through the hard times (Heb. 12:2).
To Be Christ-like, Boards, Committees, and Ministry Teams Cannot Be Characterized as Aimless:
Jesus was criticized for many things, but floundering around, failing to accomplish much of anything, was not one of them.
Ask this of your group: Are we busy with a lot of meetings and activity but have little to show for all the time and effort? If so, how can we become more purposeful?
To Be Christ-like, Boards, Committees, and Ministry Teams Cannot Be Characterized as Merely Oiling the Machinery:
Jesus didn’t come to maintain status quo. He came to not only fulfill the law but take it to the next level (Matt. 5:17-48).
Ask this of your group: Is our board, committee, or ministry team making a difference in the Church, advancing the cause of Christ? If not, how can we become more purposeful?
